Ep. 11: How to Find Your Authentic Personal Style and Be Brave Enough to Wear It, with Holly Chayes

Personal style is how you communicate who you are before you have to say a word.

Are you one of those Gen X’ers who has a closet full of clothes that you don’t wear anymore?  Maybe they don’t fit right or don’t feel like “you” anymore?  Maybe you believe that you have to dress or look a particular way at work or social settings that don't really match who you are. Or maybe you’re a casual, jeans, t-shirt, sneaker-wearing Gen X’er who’s never uttered the words “personal style.”  Well, after this episode, you’re going to have a whole new appreciation for what personal style really means.

This week Michele sits down with Holly Chayes, a personal style coach and consultant focusing on everyday genuine style and helping you build and wear the wardrobe you love. (Even when you’re running late, fighting a cold, and it's laundry day.)  Because our lives are lived between monumental milestone moments.

Holly has a background in costume design and wardrobe for theater, knitwear design and pattern writing for hand knitters, and building & running marketing and operations systems for creative businesses.

She is the host of Talking About Clothes with Holly Chayes, a podcast where she talks about clothes with the people who wear them, and the writer behind Who Wears Who? - a website devoted to helping you reclaim your closet.

Holly's got the goods on everything from clearing out and systematizing your closet, to owning your style at work, to understanding why high-quality shoes are a must. With her 3-step system, Holly will get you stoked for finding your authentic style and being brave enough to wear it!

Michele and Holly also get into the importance of allowing yourself to grieve the identity shifts that have caused your wardrobe to change.  Whether it’s grief over the size that you used to be, or grief over a shirt you wore on that first date that didn’t work out, it’s critical to allow yourself the space to grieve as you venture out of your closet to embrace your personal style.
