Ep. 21: You Are Not Broken: Healing From Individualism, Shame, And Systems Of Oppression

None of us are broken. We just live in a system that reinforces that we are. — myisha t. hill

One of the biggest hurdles for Gen X’ers moving through transitions is our stubborn steadfastness to wanting to DIY everything on our own!

This adherence to rugged individualism is something we learned through various systems growing up, and it’s a bell that’s challenging to unring.

Combine that with internalized shame about ourselves, and we have a toxic cocktail that keeps many of us drunk in the systems of oppression that hold us and others back.  And in our stupor, we double down on our efforts to do everything in isolation, feeling even more shame every step of the way when we aren’t able to make the powerful life changes that we want.

This week’s guest, myisha t. hill, has been a life-saving guide on my journey over the last few years to heal through my rugged individualism, shame, and systems of oppression.  (And yes - myisha’s name is intentionally not capitalized).

myisha is a writer, podcaster, life coach, and healer who’s leading a revolution of heart, mind, and soul.  Her work awakens others to purposeful passion and serves as a guide towards personal accountability and intergenerational healing.  Learn more by diving into her new book, Heal Your Way Forward: The Co-Conspirator’s Journey to an Antiracist Future.

myisha and I invite you to come join us in the Check Your Privilege Community and the Co-Conspirators Lounge so that you can be held and supported in a compassionate community to do this vital work!
